Volunteering
Much of the
work done for the Oregon Flora Project is accomplished by volunteers, and
our operating budget depends on donations from individuals and
organizations. The Oregon Flora Project represents an excellent way to
become a part of this major study of Oregon’s plant
life!
We welcome volunteers of all
ages and skill levels--over 230 people have participated in the Oregon
Flora Project so far by sending in species lists, specimens, photographs,
or working in the OSU Herbarium.
Some of the opportunities for
volunteers include:
- Checking scientific literature for references to Oregon plants
- Scanning slides, cropping digital images, and database entry for the Photo Gallery
- Verifying the identification of photos submitted to the Photo
Gallery
- Organizing opportunities to raise awareness of and funds for the
Oregon Flora Project
- Sending in plant specimen or photograph vouchers to help validate
the Oregon occurrence of plant species
- Submitting plant species lists or photographs from various areas of
the state for use in the Atlas database and the Photo
Gallery
Some of these tasks are
best accomplished at our base in the Oregon State University Herbarium, in
Corvallis. We are working to make more volunteer opportunities possible by
working online from locations statewide. Plant lists and photographs
from the most remote corners of Oregon are always welcome!
If you would like to contribute species
lists, photographs, or other information to the Oregon Flora Project, or
if you would like to volunteer, contact us at:

The Oregon
Flora Project is funded largely by donations from individuals, and has
received some grant support from organizations and federal agencies.
However, it is the sustained support of donors and the Native Plant
Society of Oregon which insure that our fine staff are paid, the Oregon
Flora Newsletter is published, and that progress on the Flora Project
keeps happening! All contributions are tax-deductible, and can be made
through two venues (all funds go directly to the Oregon Flora
Project, whichever method is chosen). Checks may be written to:
Oregon State University Foundation (include “Oregon Flora
Project” on the memo line)
or
Native Plant Society of
Oregon (include “Oregon Flora Project” on the memo line)
and
mailed to:
Dr. Linda Hardison Oregon Flora Project
Department of Botany & Plant Pathology Oregon State
University/ 2082 Cordley Hall Corvallis, OR 97331
Membership in the Friends of the Oregon Flora
Project, a committee of the Native Plant Society of Oregon
(NPSO), is also an excellent way to support our goals. Contact the
Friends at:
Friends of the Oregon Flora Project P.O. Box 402 Corvallis,
